Event Co-ordinator & Creative Writer - Hazel Anaka
Hazel Anaka has been a part of the team since 2008. She brings a depth and breadth of talent and experience to every project she undertakes. Hazel is a study in contrasts: able to combine a professional, pragmatic attention to detail and budget with creative flair and a touch of class. Having run her own business for nearly sixteen years she is acutely aware of the bottom line and the need to make sound, fact-based decisions without sacrificing results. Her experience on private and public sector boards has added to her skill set and number of contacts. Hazel is an incoming member of the Alberta Central Tourism Destination Region Board.
As a writer, Hazel understands the power of written communication. But with power comes responsibility---the duty to clarify, inform, entertain, educate, or motivate---all with as much style and creativity as a project allows. Hazel has numerous non-fiction publishing credits and is the creator of a weekly column From Where I Sit which has appeared in print or online since 2002. She has written and edited a national newsletter; created political campaign materials; written press releases and speeches; and has a fiction manuscript in the final revision stage.
As a visual artist, Hazel brings creativity to all she undertakes. An understanding of colour, scale, proportion, and focal point is manifest in everything she does from floral arrangements, to merchandising, to home and event decor, to the design of a document. Hazel has participated in many solo and group art shows and her work is in private and public collections. Most recently she organized Lamont County’s 2010 Doors Open Art Show and Sale.
As an event organizer, Hazel has been involved with everything from tradeshow booths to employee celebrations for a thousand people. From concept to execution she brings creativity, budget savvy and attention to detail. Hazel has been involved as both participant and organizer of focus groups, art shows, author visits, and celebration events. She has volunteered at Stollery Children’s Hospital radio-thons and Relay for Life. Hazel was Coordinator for the 2010 Lamont County Doors Open event which saw an increase in participating churches, museums and attractions as well as improved publicity and increase in visitor numbers.
